Core Values
Why do we do what we do at Westside Community Church?
We value:
- Solid Scripture Teaching and Application:
The scriptures show us godly living and continually points us in the direction of holiness and righteousness. We believe that Christians should be continually growing in their knowledge and application of the Holy Bible. (Psalm 119:11, 105; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 4:12; James 1:22)
- Godly Leadership:
Our leader and role model is the Lord Jesus Christ. His example of a Servant-Leader will be lived out in the lives of the church leaders as an example to the congregation and the community. (Matthew 20:26-28; Philippians 2:7)
- Integrity in all we do:
We will conduct ourselves by the moral standards of the scriptures. (2 Corinthians 7:2)
- Biblical Community:
A priority of this church is to be and do the things that God expects of a biblically functioning community, that is devotion to the Word, worship, and walking with God. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we will be the Body of Christ. (Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 12:27)
- Personal Spiritual Growth:
The Spiritual life cannot be stagnant. Just as the physical body grows from infancy to adult so does our spiritual life. Our church will focus its ministries to promote the spiritual growth in individuals. (John 15:5; 2 Peter 1:5-10; 1 Peter 2:2)
- Mission Minded:
The Kingdom of God is far greater than our local church, city, denomination, or country; it consists of devoted followers of Jesus Christ all over the world. As a church we will partner with the universal Body of Christ by encouraging and supporting them through church planting, mission trips, projects, and our finances. (Acts 1:8)
- Prayer:
God desires for His people to pray and loves to answer prayers. We will promote a lifestyle of prayer and rely on prayer for all the ministries and activities of this church. (Matthew 7:7-11; James 5:13-18)
- Personal Evangelism:
It is the responsibility and privilege for every Christian to be faithful in showing God’s love and telling of His salvation to a lost world. This is best accomplished through personal relationships with those who do not yet know the Lord, following the leading of the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 3:15)
- Grace Oriented:
We are all a “work in progress.” We will extend God’s unconditional acceptance and total forgiveness through Jesus Christ to all. We will show God’s grace to others as it has been shown to us. (John 1:16, 17; Ephesians 4:7)
- Lifestyle Worship:
We were created to worship God, individually and corporately, in spirit and truth. Our lives, mind, body, and spirit should be an act of worship. We will encourage and model a lifestyle of worship, not simply a once a week experience. (Deuteronomy 6:5; John 4:23, 24; Romans 12:1)
